YING - YANG corner of song titles and poetic meanderings.

My old flame-->my new flame.
you've changed-->you've not changed.
Just lovers, friends no more.
Falling in love with love is wonderful-->
When it rains in Chicago, it pours jazz musicians....
Cool out with some Hot Jazz!
=========================================================
GONE BUT THEIR MELODIES STILL LINGER ON,
Listening to their music will bring cheer-drops

some mid-June Highlights
=========================================================
Benny Green and Russell Malone duet at the Showcase
Very, very nice.

Ray Brown Trio with Kariem Higgins, Larry Fuller
I unfortunately could not attend--but know it was great.
If you caught any of these performances, they were the
last ones for the GREAT Ray Brown.

Malachi Thompson, Robert Irving III, Darius Savage,
on electric bass, Curtis Prince, awesome drummer,
and Dennis Winslett on sax completed the month-long
Wednesday Miles Tribute at the Velvet. Mentioning it
was fabulous would be an understatement...don't miss
the Jazz Loft on Friday July 5th.

Ernest Dawkins Trio plus at the No Exit Cafe.
Ernest played the alto and tenor and a myriad of
percussion toys he finds in the most precarious places.
Isaiah Smith on drums, Aaron Getsug on baritone, and
William Perry filling in with the alto. A bit of bass
with Darius -- I KNOW you missed out on that one...
be sure to reserve the Sunday 4-7pm slot at the
No Exit - it is always marvelous music

Ernest also closed the Arts Across Illinois
live broadcast on Channel 11 with the Arts Ensemble
that included Steve Berry, trombone, trumpet,
Jeff Parker,guitar and Avyreeal Ra, drums
He is in Europe on tour and will be at the Velvet
on Thursday July 25th.

My favorite radio people in Chicago. They sponsor all kinds of events
including a monthly big band bash the fourth Wednesday
of the month. They have been featuring the Burgess Gardner Big Band.
If you are not hip to Burgess, trumpeteneur, master composer and
arranger, father of a couple of jazz legend sons, then you have not
been jazzin with the Zebra Libra. Check out the Wednesday, Jun 26
concert at 7pm, if you live in Chicagoland. THE HARAMBEE HOUSE is
located at 11901 South Loomis in Chicago. Take I-57 south to 119th
Street East exit. Go east on 1-57 to Loomis Street, about 1/2 mile
(the second light).
Look for the Harambee House sign and turn into the free parking lot.
